Title: | Part-time Assistant Woodcarving Teacher |
---|---|
ID: | 1037 |
This is a great opportunity for a woodworker, sculptor, or mixed media artist who has experience with relief carving and an interest in helping students learn the necessary skills to complete a significant work of art. Belmont Hill School’s tradition in woodcarving dates back to 1927 and continues to thrive. Each year graduating seniors must complete a 12” x 12” relief carving to be permanently displayed on the walls of the school. The images range from landscape to figurative, architectural, or truly unique one-of-a-kind narratives. Students use traditional carving gouges and work closely with the lead teacher (with 30 years of experience) to produce heirloom-quality work in a classroom space dedicated to carving. The ideal candidate must possess a knowledge of relief carving (in any medium), be enthusiastic to work with motivated and talented 17-19-year-old students, and be flexible and willing to learn on the job.
