Belmont Hill School is seeking a technical director for the fall theatrical season, consisting of an Upper School Play and a Middle School Play, both beginning rehearsals in early September and scheduled to open in early November for one weekend each (11/1-2, 11/8-9). The Technical Director will be responsible for the design and implementation of the lighting and sound design of these two plays, in consultation with their respective directors. The Technical Director will design, prepare (through focusing of lights, etc.), and execute the lighting and sound for both performances, with the potential assistance of student volunteers. Rehearsals run in the afternoons on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, with few Saturday technical rehearsals. The Technical Director need not attend all rehearsals, but will be expected to attend technical rehearsals and all performances; other rehearsal attendance will be determined in consultation with the respective directors.
Qualified candidates should have:
• Experience with light and sound design software (our program uses an ETC Ion board and Q Lab).
• Comfort with focusing and/or rigging lighting instruments (wire tension grid).
• Experience working with a team on creative or theatrical performances.
• Working knowledge of all relevant safety needs in working at height and with electricity.
• Interpersonal and communication skills to successfully interact with staff, faculty, students and other constituents of the School.
• A desire to work around and with the students of the School.
