School Nurse

Position Description

 

Belmont Hill School seeks a School Nurse to begin in July 2022. The School Nurse’s primary responsibility is to run the Health Office and provide direct care for the School’s 450 students. The School Nurse also manages all administrative and compliance aspects of the Health Office, and ensures that it is consistent and in compliance with Massachusetts state laws and the Massachusetts Department of Public Health regulations governing school health and nursing practices. The School Nurse collaborates with the Belmont Hill Physician Consultant, the Director of Health and Wellness, and School Mental Health Counselors to assess and implement the School’s health program and protocols. As a member of the staff, the School Nurse  reports to the Assistant Head of School.

 

More specific responsibilities include:

 

  • Maintain, evaluate, and interpret cumulative health data in the Magnus Database system and coordinate with Division Directors to accommodate individual health needs;
  • Administer prescribed and over-the-counter medication in accordance with Belmont Hill’s medication policy;
  • Provide emergency services and coordinate transportation for those who are sick or injured and in need of emergency treatment;
  • As a member of the school Health Team, collaborate with the School Mental Health Counselors, Division Heads, Consulting School Psychologist and Psychiatrist;
  • Collaborate with the Athletic Trainer(s) in ongoing treatment and support of injured student-athletes;
  • Submit annual State-mandated reports;
  • Organize, order and maintain all supplies for Health Office; and
  • Plan and coordinate annual flu vaccine clinic for faculty, staff, and students.

 

Responsibilities are not intended to be all inclusive.  Candidates should be capable of handling responsibilities as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of nursing experience and a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing (BSN);
  • Licensed to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Massachusetts;
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently as needed and to collaborate with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills; and
  • Strong proficiency in a variety of technological platforms as well as excellent organizational skills.

 

 

Belmont Hill School is a non-denominational school for boys in grades 7-12 situated on 29 acres in Belmont, MA, a suburb 20 minutes northwest of Boston. Primarily a day school, Belmont Hill also maintains a five-day boarding program for approximately 30 students in order to serve students from a broader geographic region.
